Keep reading to find out.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Employees and Productivity: Avoiding the Afternoon Slump<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> Encourage Going Outside <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Going outside, getting fresh air and sunlight can wake employees up, even in the middle of the day. Sunlight during the day can have the same effect as getting sunlight in the morning \u2013 it wakes the body up.<span id=\"more-1278\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> Get Moving<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Encouraging employees to get up from their desk can not only wake them up a bit; it can improve their creativity. As reported in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/how-to-not-crash-2015-9\">Business Insider<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>A pair of Stanford scientists recently had two groups of volunteers take creativity quizzes in which they tried coming up with alternative uses for common objects, like a coffee cup or a pen. The first group sat at desks in a blank room; the other walked on a treadmill in that room. The <a href=\"http:\/\/psycnet.apa.org\/psycinfo\/2014-14435-001\/\">students who walked came up with about 60% more uses for each object<\/a>, and their ideas were not only creative but useful as well, the researchers wrote in their study.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong> Encourage a Light Lunch<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>While you may not be able to tell employees what to eat for breakfast or lunch, you can provide snack options that provide optimal energy. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/how-to-not-crash-2015-9\">Business Insider<\/a> notes, \u201cAfter we ingest too many empty carbs \u2014 foods high in sugar but low in protein \u2014 our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hsph.harvard.edu\/nutritionsource\/carbohydrates\/carbohydrates-and-blood-sugar\/\">blood-sugar levels spike <\/a>; when they plummet a few hours later, we experience a \u2018crash\u2019 in energy levels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If possible, provide healthy snack options for employees to enjoy or offer takeout menus that have healthy options.<\/p>\n<p>Experiencing the afternoon crash does not have to be a daily grind for employees.
